It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
